Bubble Fun
Bubble Fun
WALT / Practising to Count On and Count Back
Today we had a visit from the Science in a Van Roadshow.
We learnt about mixtures, separation and reactions. We also had some bubble fun.
We decided to see how many bubbles we could blow in ONE breath and then add them together and take them away - this way we could practise our addition and subtraction and basic facts.
Some of us had to blow a few times to make sure we got enough bubbles to count!
"Phontayne and Levi worked out the addition problem. 8 + 4 =12, 12 +10 = 22. Phontayne also worked it out like this "10 + 4 = 14 and then I counted on in 2s until I got to 22. We worked out 13-13 = 0 and then there is 5 left over. The addition was easy and the takeaway was a little harder. Next time we would use the number line or the wooden hundreds board or the calculators to check our answers."

WALT Make Connections
"I like reading. I like working on the independent cards sometimes. The Poem card is good because it is easy. The Non-fiction card is hard because I get mixed up between fiction and non-fiction." Indie

WALT Write Adjectives
We have been learning to add describing words to our stories
to make them more interesting.
Here is a quick describing activity that we did in class.
We got to choose what animal we wanted to write about.
We used TAGUL to make them into word clouds.
It is easy to write describing words. I thought hard about what it looked like and what words I could use. I can also learn to spell the words correctly at the same time.

Showcase Term 4 - Wearable Art
Wearable Art with a Pacific flavour!
Room 9 have spent the last 2 terms creating 2 pieces of Wearable Art.
The first piece was a t-shirt with a painted picture that reminded us of the Pacific.
The girls chose to sketch and paint a Pasifika flower.
The boys chose to draw a sea turtle.
Inside each of these drawings were patterns that we had explored and seen displayed in
Pasifika artworks. We practised by sketching these into our art books.
The second artwork created by the girls were hula skirts. We reused plastic bags and tied them together as we worked in pairs. At first it was a little tricky but the more we did, the better we got at tying them together. Like they say - practise makes perfect!
The second artwork displayed by the boys was a Lavalava or Pareu (sarong)
to compliment their t-shirts.
We had a lot of help from Mrs Kong to complete the sarongs, painting of the t-shirts and in the construction of our hula skirts in time for the art show so a BIG THANK YOU to her for all her help! We couldn't have done it without you.
We hope you enjoy our wonderful creations ... Tamure tamure, e te muremure ra...

Reflection:
"Sometimes I like writing. I like writing about fun things that I do. I need to remember to
put in capital letters and fullstops in the right places.
My word card in the back of my book can help me check my spelling."
